The Cybils are a series of book awards given by children’s and young adult book bloggers. The Cybils have only two criteria: literary merit and kid appeal. We don’t think those two values have to collide. There are books we want kids to read and books kids can’t resist. Somewhere in the middle, they meet.
Now in the fifth year, we’re comprised of 100+ bloggers who write about children’s and teen’s books every day. We open our nominations to the public. One group of panelists in each genre narrows the selections down to a “short list” of finalists. Those books go to a second round of judges to select the final Cybils winner in each category.
Nominations for the 2010 awards closed as of October 15, 2010. The finalists were announced January 1, 2011 with the winner in each category announced on February 14, 2011. The winners are:
